Q. How much does a tattoo cost?
A. Tattoo prices are quoted based on an hourly rate. Many factors go in to giving a price for a tattoo, and all aspects of size and design must be discussed first. Under no circumstances will we give a price quote over the phone. Please come into the shop to discuss your tattoo and its price.
Q. Do you have tattoo designs I can pick from?
A. Yes. We have a vast collection of tattoo “flash” (Flash is the term for pre-designed tattoo images). All tattoo flash can be modified if desired by the customer.
Q. I have my own idea for a tattoo, can you design it for me?
A. Absolutely. This is known as “custom work” and all of our artists greatly enjoy collaborating with clients on bringing their ideas to life.
Q. How old do I have to be to get a tattoo?
A. 18. period. No exceptions.
Q. What methods of payment do you accept?
A. Cash or credit. No personal checks please.
Q. Should I tip my artist?
A. Like in all other facets of the service industry, it is never mandatory, but always appreciated.
Q. How bad does it hurt?
A. It depends. Everyone has a different tolerance for the pain, and there are a million ways to describe it- all equally inaccurate. If you’ve never had a tattoo before, the best answer is “yes, it is painful, but not nearly as painful as you are imagining.” If you need a break, simply ask your artist. Large designs can be broken up into several sessions.
Q. Can I drink alcohol or take pain relievers before getting a tattoo?
A. No. Don’t do it. If we suspect you have consumed alcohol or taken pain relievers, we may refuse service. Besides impairing your judgment, Alcohol (and most pain relievers) are blood thinners. This will cause a tattoo to bleed more, which make it more difficult to do and jeopardizes the quality of the tattoo.
Q. What is the best aftercare for my tattoo?
A. Tattoo artists around the world have multiple ideas as to what aftercare regimen is best. We suggest washing 3-4 times per day with a mild soap such as Dr. Bronners (do not use antibacterial soaps, they kill the good bacteria as well as the bad and can impede healing). Your first washing should occur within one hour of leaving the shop. After each washing, pat dry with a paper towel and apply your Monsters Ink Tattoo Aftercare Ointment. Also apply ointment any time your tattoo feels dry or stiff between washings. Continue this regimen as long as needed (generally about two weeks). After two weeks, continue to use the ointment at least once daily.
